Read this before publishing. It is a starting template, not legal advice.
No lawyer has reviewed this document. It describes the website as it is built today: no cookies of its own, no analytics, no advertising or social pixels. That is currently true, and it stops being true the moment anyone adds a measurement tag, an embedded video, a chat widget or a tracking pixel - each of which sets storage this page would then be describing wrongly.
Every [ADD: …] placeholder is a fact nobody has supplied yet. Fill them in, re-check the list against what the live site actually loads, have it reviewed, then delete this box.
The short version
This website does not set any cookies of its own. It does not run analytics, it carries no advertising or social media pixels, and it does not build a profile of you. It makes no third-party requests at all - the typefaces are served from this site, not from Google. The one thing it does keep in your browser is the light or dark theme, if you pick one, and that is described below. That is the entire picture.
Because nothing here is used for tracking or advertising, you will not find a consent banner on this site. A banner that asks permission for storage that does not exist is theatre, and we would rather explain the position than perform it.
What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store, which the browser hands back on later visits. Related technologies do much the same job by other means - local storage and session storage keep values in the browser, and pixels or beacons are tiny requests embedded in a page that tell a server the page was opened.
They are usually described in two ways. First-party storage is set by the site you are visiting; third-party storage is set by another company whose code the site loads. And by purpose: strictly necessary, preference, analytics, and marketing or advertising.
What this site uses
As built, this website sets one thing, and only because you asked for it: the light or dark theme. There is no login, no shopping basket, no session to keep alive, and no measurement code.
| Category | Used here | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | None | The site is static. There is no session, login or basket to maintain. |
| Preference | One | If you use the theme switch, your choice of light or dark is kept in your browser’s local storage under the name apex-theme. It is a single word, it never leaves your device, and it is not a cookie - it is not sent to us with any request. Until you press that switch, nothing is stored and the site follows whatever your operating system prefers. Clearing site data in your browser removes it. |
| Analytics | None | No analytics product is installed. We do not measure visits, pages or journeys. |
| Marketing / advertising | None | No advertising, remarketing or social media pixels are present. |
If that changes - and for most businesses it eventually does - this page has to be updated at the same time, and analytics or marketing storage would need consent before it is set.
Third parties this site contacts
None. Loading a page here contacts the server hosting it, and no other.
Fonts
The typefaces used across the site (Archivo and DM Mono) are served from this site’s own domain. They used to be requested from Google Fonts, which meant every visitor’s IP address, and the address of the page they were reading, reached Google before the page had finished drawing. The font files are now hosted here, so that request does not happen at all.
The spam check on the enquiry form
The contact page can show a Cloudflare Turnstile challenge - the box that confirms you are a person before a form is sent. It is switched off at the moment, so no request is made to Cloudflare’s challenge service and nothing is stored by it.
If it is switched on, Turnstile loads a script from challenges.cloudflare.com and may store a short-lived value in your browser to remember that the check passed. It is there to stop automated abuse of the form, not to identify you or track you between sites, and it is the kind of storage that is necessary for a service you asked for. This page and the Privacy Policy are both part of switching it on, not documentation to update afterwards.
Your web host
Serving any page produces a server log at the hosting provider - typically IP address, timestamp, the file requested, and the browser's user-agent string. This is standard operational logging rather than tracking, and it is not a cookie, but it is a record and you should know it exists. The site and the enquiry database are hosted by Cloudflare. [ADD: their log retention period.]
See the Privacy Policy for how information you deliberately send us - through the enquiry form, by email or by phone - is handled.
Why there is no cookie banner
Consent requirements attach to storage that is not strictly necessary - analytics, advertising, profiling. This site sets none of it, so there is nothing to ask you to agree to. The obligation is to tell you what happens, which is what this page does.
If analytics, embedded video, a chat widget or advertising tags are added later, a consent mechanism has to be added with them, and it has to work properly: nothing non-essential set before you choose, a refusal as easy as an acceptance, and a way to change your mind afterwards.
Controlling storage yourself
Independently of this site, every major browser lets you see what has been stored, delete it, and block it in future. The controls sit under privacy or site settings:
- Chrome - Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies, and Delete browsing data
- Safari - Settings → Privacy, and Manage Website Data
- Firefox - Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Edge - Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking storage entirely is safe on this site, because it does not depend on any. It will break sites that do - anything you log in to, in particular. Blocking requests to Google's font domains will also work here; the pages will simply fall back to your system typefaces and look a little different.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. This site does no tracking to switch off, so there is nothing for the signal to change here. If tracking is introduced later, the signal should be honoured.
Changes to this policy
This page is updated whenever what the site loads changes, and the date at the top of the page is the date of the last change. Adding any measurement or advertising technology is exactly such a change, and updating this page is part of that job rather than a follow-up to it.
